Unit 11 - Preparation for progression in creative media production

 Next Steps: 01/10/24

where I see myself in 5 years: in five years I could see myself working in the media industry as either a film editor or producer or graphic designer after doing an apprenticeship after finishing college. I wouldn't mind doing anything related to media and I also maybe could create and produce something original since I have interesting ides for a movie franchise .

My experience to date: I've done GCSE media and creative media L3 however I want to improve this and give  myself more stuff to do by making and editing things for people I know and finding more work experience.

Mind map for the future:

here is a mind map for my future on what type of jobs I would like to do in media along with future options available to me.

Film roles: 14/10/24

Director:
a film director is someone who coordinates everything when making a film production, editing and overall is the person who oversees all creative aspects and brings them together.
Producer:
producers oversee the creative process of a film from concept to completion. they work in sync with the director to ensure artistic and technical decisions are made that benefit the movie.
editor:
editors are given the raw footage of a film and then are tasked with piecing together the best shots to create the best version of a scene that will eventually go into the Final Cut of a film.
runner:
often the entry point of a career when getting into the film industry. runners carry out administrative tasks and aid the smooth running of a films production.
DOP (director of Photography): classified also as cinematographers the DOP will work with the director to realise scenes for their vision of the film.

Backstage Research 05/11/24
today I created an account for backstage which is a website that helps aspiring actors or production crews get jobs in media for anything.
recently Ive been looking on a website called backstage and I've been checking out what jobs they have available as mos of them are for actors or production crew with many things to do with media. I'm fascinated that Ive found a way to find a website that can help me pursue a career in media more easily.
the website is really helpful for those interested in media specifically film and tv and media and so I think it will be a good idea to continue looking on it from time to time to check if there is any available jobs that may be suitable for me in the future whenever I can as its great for looking at any practical work that has to do either film tv or VoiceOver.
one particular.

one of the jobs on backstage was an acting job for an A24 movie starring Zendaya and on a recent holiday I was on in new york I saw a small flyer stuck to a pole advertising the project I had seen on the website. what's so interesting is that the website will recommend jobs that a re perfect for you and offers a wide range of acting, VoiceOver or production jobs for anyone interested in taking them up.

 Prospects Quiz: 05/11/24:

today I've taken the prospects quiz that should help me see what type of job I would be good in and suitable for. the top matches I got for the quiz are

1- trade union research officer

2- zookeeper

3- orthoptist

4- clinical technologist

5- information officer

6- sustainability consultant

7- trading standards officer

8- diagnostic radiographer

9- tourism officer

10- local government officer

all of these are chosen because of the quiz I've done which determine jobs that I would be suitable for however that doesn't mean that those are the jobs I have to choose and do.

after college I want to go into apprenticeships which shall hopefully give me enough experience to go onto a real job in a few years. that's why I'm wanting to continue volunteering and to find some work experience within the next year.

Apprenticeship websites and choices:
im planning to apply for an apprenticeship by next year in September and here are some of the websites that offer the best choices for apprenticeships in media
Indeed - indeed offers an interesting way of choosing the right job for you and I think it's well organised. the choices and options for jobs In media are all to do with marketing and managing social media and they have some good film and tv options.
these are some of the apprenticeships indeed offers for media.

Gov.UK - this website helps to create cvs and helps to track down the right jobs and apprenticeships however from what I've seen there aren't that many media apprenticeships on this one than others.
here are some of the apprenticeships for media on gov.uk

uk screen alliance - this website is for those who are going into film and tv and highly focuses on courses that go towards those professions and im very interested in what they have to offer.
here are the apprenticeships for media on offer at the UK screen alliance. im thinking of applying for an apprenticeship at the UK screen alliance since they have more film and tv apprenticeships and more media opportunities in general.
CV and Personal Profile: 26/11/24

here is my CV and personal profile with my qualifications for Unit 11.
as I do more stuff and get more experience outside of college I will continue to add stuff to it. it includes my qualifications my experience so far and my hobbies and interests and im sure I will be adding more stuff to it and I may have to add it to my blogger when I have more experience.

Journalism Workshop: 27/11/24

Yesterday we engaged in a fun activity to do with journalism and we all shared our opinions on different news stories and discussed whether which ones were good and which ones were bad.
there were ten stories to choose from and we had to decide 3 of the best tones that would be good for a story and 3 that were terrible and not engaging.
the discussion was very interesting as me and my group thought that a certain story about a hamster saving its owner wasn't that interesting yet the rest of the class agreed it was interesting and the whole talk did give me a better understanding on how journalism and newspapers stories are done.
at the end of their presentation they gave us all each a book about the school of journalism and explained what you learn there and what journalism leads to in a future career.
although im going into apprenticeships after college I can see why journalism is interesting and why its important to media.

Photography presentation:
last week we had a visit from an old student who studied at Stanmore who came in to present to us what he does now and how he became a photographer and his personal life experience with Stanmore and also gave some good advice on next steps.
I asked whether or not finding jobs for media was hard and the response was that it wasn't to hard as long as you looked for the right work.
we were shown a portfolio of the speakers work and what companies he had worked for in the past and he explained how he started and what he is doing now.

Opportunities and future plans: 20/01/25
the website I signed up to backstage has been sending me job roles for acting and film production everyday however many of them are out of the country so im thinking to just keep that as something for the future. another option that has come round very recently is pursuing a level 4 course in media at Stanmore if its available or at another college as Ive found one from Southbank college in lambeth.
at the moment ive got a few options of what im going to do in the future but as of right now ive only gotten job recommendations from backstage which is a company which helps people get into acting and filmmaking jobs.

At the moment me and my mom are waiting for the right time and option to take when looking at my future. were hoping to find any creative media apprenticeships and we have agreed that im not going to university. we are going to look at any more apprenticeships that are online and if any opportunities come up we will check them out but so far we are just going to wait and also have a look for anything I might be interested in.

Recently I have been interested in looking at a level 4 creative media course for one extra year and I've found some from Southbank colleges and Stanmore is also considering a level 4 course however it needs 10 people to apply so it can become a real course. this is definitely another option for me as me and my mom are thinking that this could be good for me to stay just for one more year and then pursue the next step after.

here is one of the courses from South bank College that I could apply for another extra year of education.
and as to when im going to apply for anything im going to wait after my results when me and my parents have decided on something together that we think is the best thing for me. most likely im going to apply for something around august or earlier.
